Sky PerfecTV, telecom pact

Venture to provide interactive services, manage subscribers

TOKYO — Leading Japanese direct-to-home satcaster Sky PerfecTV has established a joint venture company with telecom carrier NTT that will provide interactive services and manage subscriber services.

Data Network Center is 51% owned by Sky PerfecTV; NTT, the largest local telecom carrier in Japan, holds 49%. Company was capitalized at 400 million yen ($3.7 million) and will soon increase its base to $55.5 million, the companies said.

Joint venture will assess costs for use of Sky PerfecTV services as well as handle calls and other telecom and Internet-related services.

Venture is part of Sky PerfecTV’s efforts to cut costs by outsourcing some of its operations. It will support services for a new broadcast and communications satellite that will broadcast at 110 degrees beginning about next summer.

The two companies joined hands in December to study the joint venture and announced at that time that NTT Data Corp. was also considering joining the venture.

    Review: 'O.G.' on HBO

Jeffrey Wright, the most compelling reason to watch HBO’s new film “O.G.,” is among television’s best actors at switching between codes or manners of being. On “Westworld,” his timeline-toggling android swaps personae so delicately that his performance gains in resonance when recalled in retrospect. (Perhaps that’s why Wright has been so oddly underrated through the [...]
