One of QVC’s killer saleswomen is making the move into firstrun syndication through Studios USA.
Kathy Levine, who generates more than $150 million a year as an on-air pitchwoman and co-host of QVC sales marathons featuring celebrities like Joan Rivers, Richard Simmons and Dick Clark, has signed to develop a talkshow, which Studios USA is planning to produce for TV stations in syndication in fall 2001.
The signing of Levine 18 months before her show would premiere follows Buena Vista TV’s announcement earlier this month that it’s working on a syndicated strip hosted by ABC correspondent John Stossel for the fall of 2002. The early deals are a sign that competition in firstrun syndication is so cutthroat that distributors have to plan far in advance to have any hope of getting a five-a-week series on the air.
Levine will resign from QVC at the end of April after 13 years on the network.
