The CBS comedy pilot “It’s About This Guy” has found its man: Jeremy Piven.
The former “Cupid” star has signed to play the title character in the Eye project, a half-hour ATG-produced laffer from producers Mitch Katlin and Nat Bernstein (“The Gregory Hines Show”).
Piven’s character is a big city playwright and professor whose life is turned upside-down when a woman he had a crush on during high school suddenly comes back into his life.
If “Guy” goes to series, it will rep Piven’s first foray back into the half-hour sitcom form since playing Ellen DeGeneres’ cousin Spence in the ABC laffer “Ellen.” Piven’s first big sitcom break came when he played a neurotic comedy scribe in HBO’s “The Larry Sanders Show.”
The actor followed “Ellen” by playing a man who believe he’s the god of love in ABC’s short-lived but critically-loved romantic drama “Cupid.”
On the feature side, his credits include “Very Bad Things,” “Kiss the Girls,” “Gross Pointe Blank” and “P.C.U.”
Piven is repped by Endeavor.
