Australian media giant Kerry Packer’s company Publishing and Broadcasting (PBL) has entered into a deal with Himachal Futuristic Communications for a joint venture company, Nine Broadcasting India.
In keeping with Indian regulations, the majority stake of 51% lies with Himachal, the rest with PBL. Channel Nine’s primary focus will be to invest in film and TV production, Internet ventures and development of new multiplexes. CEO of the new company is Ravina Kohli, who will officially take charge in India Sept. 6. PBL is also working closely with national broadcaster Doordarshan (DD) to improve the quality of DD analog channels.
