NEW YORK — Beginning Sept. 8, “CNN NewsStand” will devote Friday nights to the politics surrounding the upcoming presidential election.
CNN senior analyst Jeff Greenfield will host the series of weekly, one-hour special editions of the nightly newsmag. Greenfield will examine the coming election with the help of political analysts and members of the press who have been monitoring each of the campaigns.
Greenfield also plans to take a more irreverent look at the proceedings with contributions from newsmakers outside of the political arena.
“What we are trying to do is something decisively different,” said Greenfield. “These Friday night installments will put ‘NewsStand’s’ unique spin on election coverage.”
Viewers will be encouraged to e-mail Greenfield with suggestions about what topics, personalities and issues should be examined each week.
The presidential campaigns have already helped boost CNN’s fortunes. During both the Democratic and the Republican national conventions, CNN’s primetime ratings increased dramatically compared with the same period during the previous month.
