SYDNEY — Canadian animation studio Nelvana is partnering with Oz pubcaster SBS, government agency ScreenWest and Melbourne’s Animation Works (“The New Adventures of Ocean Girl”) to produce “When Quads Won’t Leave,” an adult animation series developed by quadriplegic American cartoonist John Callahan.
SBS, a niche multicultural broadcaster, is eager for more adult toons to build on its large audiences for “South Park” and has partnered with the Australian Film Commission and Sydney’s FTO to produce adult cartoon anthology series “Home Movies.”
“Quads” is the second recent partnering of Oz companies with Canadians. Crawfords, the banner of former Paramount Intl. topper Bruce Gordon, and Oz pubcaster ABC are making kidvid series “The Saddle Club” with Canadian cable channel YTV and distrib Protocol, while JuniorNet Corp.’s Lancit has U.S. rights and London’s Eaton Films has the rest of the world.
