NBC has found a host for its Saturday night movie block: Los Angeles afternoon DJ Ryan Seacrest.
Seacrest, who hosts the afternoon drivetime show on KYSR-FM (Star 98.7), will be featured in interstitial spots throughout NBC’s three-hour Saturday movie beginning Oct. 28 at 8 p.m.
During the telecast, Seacrest will encourage audience members to go online and answer questions about the movie and the network’s sponsors. Up for grabs are cash prizes, including a weekly $100,000 award for eagle-eyed viewers. ABC also airs a three-hour movie on Saturday night, but doesn’t employ a host or any style of play-along contest.
NBC won’t feature a host the first few weeks of the season; movies skedded for the block include “The Bridges of Madison County” (Oct. 21).
Seacrest is developing the Imagine Television syndie talker “Seacrest @ Night.” A pilot has already been shot for the project, which is being targeted for fall 2001.
He also hosted the syndicated kid gameshow “Click” and the USA Network/Sci Fi Channel series “The New Edge.”
Seacrest launched his radio career at Atlanta’s Star 94 while still in high school. He’s repped by Endeavor.
NBC plans to air the Saturday night movie franchise until Feb. 3, when the network’s coverage of XFL football takes over the timeslot.
