MSNBC “HomePage” anchor Ashleigh Banfield will join NBC’s Sports Desk as a reporter covering the Sydney Games, NBC Olympics announced Tuesday.
Banfield will report on breaking news and write features on the Australia-hosted Summer Games.
“Ashleigh’s unique combination of journalism, international experience and her background as an avid athlete make her a perfect addition to NBC’s Olympic correspondent roster,” said NBC Olympics head of production David Neal. “We are very excited about having her join us in Sydney.”
Banfield joined MSNBC as an anchor on “HomePage” in February. Before that she served as a news anchor for KDFW FOX 4 in Dallas, where she received a best news anchor Emmy for her coverage on “Cadet Killers.”
She’s also held news positions at ABC’s “World News Tonight,” and at Canadian stations CICT-TV, CJBN in Ontario, CKY in Winnipeg and CFRN in Alberta.
