Former USA Networks exec A.J. Morewitz has been named senior vice president of development for Conan O’Brien’s NBC-based production shingle.
Morewitz will be the company’s chief Los Angeles-based creative exec. He reports to O’Brien and “Late Night” exec producer Jeff Ross, who announced the hiring Tuesday.
“With A.J.’s help, we hope to bring my irritating and unprofessional comedy to primetime,” O’Brien quipped.
Developing the USA
Before joining the O’Brien team, Morewitz spent nearly two years as director of development at USA Networks, helping bring the skeins “Cover Me” and the upcoming “The Huntress” to the air. He had previously been director of development for Eagle Point Prods., working on pics such as the Kevin Costner starrer “Tin Cup” and “Just Cause.”
“We’re glad to have A.J. as our eyes and ears in Los Angeles as we get up and running,” Ross said.
NBC and O’Brien pacted on an overall development and production agreement a year ago. Deal calls for the “Late Night” host to utilize talent from his talker and elsewhere in programs targeted for all Peacock dayparts, including primetime.
