Doordashan odds-on to get exclusive rights

NEW DELHI — The government of India is rapidly moving toward a long-awaited decision to allow direct-to-home satellite services in India.

The Information and Broadcasting Ministry is likely to announce a decision by next month.

National broadcaster Doordashan will probably be granted exclusive rights to start DTH services for three years before the field is opened to private companies.

The DTH players have been waiting for a decision for several years.
