Fox targeting ‘Gunmen’ pilot

'X-Files' spinoff to bow next season

Fox Broadcasting Co. has greenlit a 20th Century Fox Television drama pilot for an “X-Files” spinoff based on the Lone Gunmen characters seen from time to time on the skein (Daily Variety, Jan. 12.)

Series will likely feature the actors who play the paranoid characters now seen on “The X-Files,” though no deal has been completed. “X-Files” creator Chris Carter is on board to produce the pilot for next season.

Deal for the “Gunmen” pilot is unrelated to talks regarding another season of “X-Files.” Those negotiations continue to move forward, with an outcome expected in the next few weeks.

Eye’s on ‘Big Brother’

Meanwhile, CBS and Endemol confirmed Thursday that the net had locked up the rights to the Dutch company’s “Big Brother” (Daily Variety, Jan. 27.)

At a news conference announcing the deal, CBS topper Leslie Moonves conceded the U.S show would “push the envelope” of what’s normally seen on U.S. television.

“There will be things that aren’t seen on ‘The King of Queens’ on Monday nights,” he said. “We’re doing this without a net.”
