Fox flocks to ‘Male’ box

Syndie shows 'Pitch,' 'Lift' also being groomed for launch

Twentieth Television is working “The Male Room” this summer.

Project, one of several in development for a potential 2001 syndie launch by the Fox syndie arm, has also been referred to as “The Code.” It’s one of a handful of panel shows along the lines of ABC’s “The View” that are being looked at or developed in the syndie community.

Contrary to femme-hosted “The View,” “Male Room” would feature four men and one woman. It’s being shepherded by producers Judy Pastore and Steve Nalevansky, two of the three creative execs who comprise Montecito Valley Prods., which Twentieth has signed to an exclusive production deal.

Nalevansky is the former senior VP of programming and production at King World Prods., and Pastore was formerly VP of original programming at Showtime. The third in the Montecito trio is Kelly Newby, former supervising producer of “The Roseanne Show.”

Twentieth has also been pondering a vehicle for KTTV personality Jillian Barberie. Barberie, who also appears on FX’s “The X Show,” recently guest-hosted “Live! With Regis,” for which Buena Vista Television is seeking a co-host to replace Kathie Lee Gifford.

“The Big Pitch” is also in Twentieth’s mix. During the show from Al Burton, contestants pitch concepts or inventions to a celeb panel.

The studio also has tinkered with “Face Lift,” during which guests try to decipher which celeb — affected by a morphing technology — they are looking at. Jonathan Goodson Prods. is the producer.
