Eye rues ‘Late’ Bush baiting

'Sniper' graphic called 'inappropriate and regrettable'

Chances are good that Republican presidential nominee George W. Bush will not be making an appearance on CBS’ “The Late Late Show With Craig Kilborn” anytime soon.

During an “In the News” item about Bush’s acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention that aired on the Aug. 4 episode of Kilborn’s latenight chatfest, the text “Sniper Wanted” briefly appeared on the screen.

On Wednesday, CBS and Worldwide Pants, which produces the program, issued an apology, calling the graphic “inappropriate and regrettable.” The two companies acknowledged that the graphic “should not have been included in the telecast and is not consistent with our broadcast standards. … We are now concluding a review of this matter and will take appropriate action when this process is complete.”
