Eick inks development deal at USA

'Gothic' producer will develop programming

Former “American Gothic” producer David Eick has inked a multiyear development deal with Studios USA.

Eick’s deal had been expected in the wake of his departure from USA Network, where he had been senior VP of original series since July 1998 (Daily Variety, Sept. 26).

Pact with Studios USA calls for Eick to develop and produce programming with the studio’s roster of producers, including Eick’s former “Gothic” partner, Shaun Cassidy.

“We are thrilled to have David Eick back at the studio as a producer,” said Studios USA programming prexy David Kissinger. “He is an exceptionally talented, knowledgeable and forceful producer who we expect to pair with many of our writers in the coming months.

“It is a rare opportunity to be in business with a nonwriting producer who adds real value to so many facets of projects.”

Renaissance man

Eick has a long relationship with Studios USA. Before joining USA Network, he spent six years at Renaissance Pictures Television, which has an exclusive production deal with the studio.

At Renaissance, Eick produced syndie smash “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys” and co-developed its spinoff, “Xena: Warrior Princess.” He also produced the two-hour Fox pilot “Mantis.”
