HOLLYWOOD — E! Entertainment is launching a round-the-clock channel in the Philippines in a joint venture with 50-year-old Manila-based media org RMN. The Filipino company has in fact agreed to scrap its entire lineup on one channel to effectively become the platform for E! programming.
E! Philippines will launch in October and will be available as a free, over-the-air channel featuring over 5,000 hours of E! programming per year. The new channel will also produce a variety of original programs and interstitials focused on the local entertainment industry.
The arrangement was worked out by E! networks senior VP Jon Helmrich and RMN top execs Eric Canoy and Lito Ocampo Cruz.
RMN’s flagship TV station is Channel 31 in Manila and by 2001 the company’s TV division will total 15 stations across the country, including the E! channel.
E! already operates several branded channels abroad, in Latin America and in Eastern Europe.
