Cuban-born Maurice Compte has been cast as Fidel’s brother, Raul Castro, in Showtime’s two-part mini-series “Fidel,” a bio-pic about the Cuban leader’s rise to power.
Pic, penned by Stephen Tolkin, will be helmed by David Attwood. Lensing is slated to begin in Mexico on Sept. 25.
Compte recently appeared in the black comedy “Double Whammy,” starring Dennis Leary, Elizabeth Hurley and Steve Buscemi. Leary plays a down-and-out cop who tries to redeem himself by finding the perpetrator of an attempted homicide.
Compte toplines “The Dreamcatcher,” helmed by Ed Radke, which will preem in September in the American Independent Vision series sponsored by the Sundance Channel and the IFP.
In addition, Compte recently appeared in “Deuces Wild,” a pic directed by Scott Calvert and produced by Martin Scorsese. He also appears in Julian Schnabel’s “Before Night Falls.”
Compte is repped by Jessica Berlinski at Baumgarten Prophet Entertainment and attorney Rick Genow at Stone, Meyer & Genow.
