Comedy Central gets ‘Demented’

2003 window for Waters' latest laffer

NEW YORK — Comedy Central has bought the exclusive network window to John Waters’ “Cecil B. Demented,” which Artisan Entertainment will open theatrically Aug. 11.

As part of the deal, Comedy Central will produce a half-hour behind-the-scenes special on “Demented,” including interviews with Waters and cast members Stephen Dorff and Alicia Witt. The special, called “Canned Ham: Cecil B. Demented,” will run on Comedy Central at 8 p.m. on Aug. 8 with six repeats of the half-hour over the following 10 days.

Artisan, which bought the North American rights to the movie from Canal Plus, will include the “Canned Ham” special in the DVD release of “Demented” six months after its theatrical premiere.

“Demented” becomes available to Comedy Central in November 2003 after the movie begins its exclusive pay TV window on Showtime.
