Pact gives mutual access to news, programs

NEW YORK — CBS Television and Tokyo Broadcasting System, the leading broadcast net in Japan, have reached a multiyear agreement that provides each organization access to the other’s newsgathering and news programming.

Deal, completed by CBS Broadcast Intl., continues an alliance between the two companies and their news organizations that began nearly 50 years ago. The agreement gives TBS News exclusive Japanese rights to all CBS News coverage of hard news and special events, as well as the CBS News broadcasts “60 Minutes,” “60 Minutes II,” “48 Hours,” “The Early Show,” and “20th Century With Mike Wallace.” In return, CBS News has acquired preferred U.S. access to TBS newsgathering and its news and public affairs programming.
