CBS has signed a deal that will permit direct broadcast satellite distributor EchoStar to continue carrying the network’s owned TV stations.
EchoStar offers local TV stations either owned or affiliated with the Big Four broadcast networks to its subscribers in 30 U.S. cities. EchoStar plans to add more cities to the local-station mix as it expands its technological capacity to do so.
CBS owns TV stations in 16 markets. But in three of the markets — Baltimore, Md.; Austin, Texas; and Green Bay, Wis. — EchoStar still doesn’t provide local service.
EchoStar and CBS declined to discuss the terms of the retransmission-consent deal.
