Cable company NTL reported solid subscriber figures Friday in advance of its second-quarter financial results, distancing itself from the problems of rival U.K. cabler Telewest.
A day after Telewest, plagued by chip shortages, pushed back its target of 500,000 digital subs from the end of the year to March 31, NTL announced it would reach the 500,000 mark by Dec. 31.
NTL, which will announce its interim financial results on Wednesday, has 230,000 subs compared with its competitor’s 223,000.
Both cablers remain well behind rival platforms. Satcaster BSkyB’s Sky Digital has 3.8 million subscribers, while terrestrial platform ONdigital, owned by Carlton Communications and United News & Media, has 740,000.
