The Cable Operators Union has threatened to go on strike in the Indian state of Maharashtra. The union demands that the government withdraw a hike in an entertainment tax imposed earlier this year.
The union will observe a complete blackout Aug. 22-23 as a sign of protest unless the government changes its stance. The 15,000-member union wants the tax to be imposed upon viewers, print media and pay channels rather than on the cable operators.
