ATN World expands into other Indian dialects

Regional channel ATN World (Asian Television), which broadcasts in local lingo Bangla, plans to beam programs in other Eastern languages of India. ATN World, currently a free-to-air channel launched in June this year in the Bangla language, is part of ATN Intl.ATN World is selling one-hour time slots to programmers in the Assamese and Oriya languages. ATN will break relatively new ground by promoting producers in these two languages, thus increasing its popularity as well as revenue.

The channel has also sold a four-hour slot to West Bengal Film Development Corp. — becoming the first private satellite channel in which a government body has bought slots in India.

Santosh Jain, managing director of ATN Intl., said the channel is also planning to launch two channels related to music and movies in the next few months.
