Talking about ‘Monologues’

Ensler's paean to womanhood opens in L.A.

The opening of the first long-term run in L.A. of “The Vagina Monologues,” Eve Ensler’s bold paean to womanhood via one particular body part, drew a packed house to the Canon Theater Saturday night.

After the play, the crowd adjourned to nearby Nic’s and the Martini Lounge to toast the stars, Julie Kavner, Julianna Margulies and Rosie Perez.

Guests on the scene included Kimberly Williams (who’ll team with Carol Kane and Phylicia Rashad in the production when the cast shifts on Oct. 31), Calista Flockhart, Marisa Tomei, George Clooney, Michael Rapaport, Dylan McDermott, Wendie Malick, Jacqueline Bisset, Adrienne Barbeau, Barbara Bain and Catherine Bell.

A portion of the proceeds from the play are going to the V-Day fund, which promotes efforts to end violence against women.
