Spinal Tap bottoms out again

Spoof-rockers play to SRO crowd at House of Blues

Spinal Tap’s amps don’t just go to 11 — they don’t take the stage until 11 p.m.

The legendary spoof-rockers resurrected themselves one more time as they blew the shutters off Hollywood’s House of Blues Tuesday night with a latenight set including their new Internet-only single “Back From the Dead.”

Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer — best known as Nigel Tufnel, David St. Hubbins and Derek Smalls — played to an SRO crowd.

The rare concert appearance followed the screening at the Egyptian Theater of the rockumentary that put them on the map 16 years ago, “This Is Spinal Tap.”

Director Rob Reiner said of his pic: “I think the film has grown. People didn’t really get it, or like it, or understand it when it first came out. It’s grown on people. People probably enjoy it now more than when it first came out.”

Helping blow out the candles for the film’s sweet 16 were cast member Fran Drescher; MGM execs David Bishop and Blake Thomas; and guests Jamie Lee Curtis, Jason Issacs, Tim Curry, Sharon Lawrence, David Schwimmer, Laura San Giacomo, Wendie Malick and Kathy Najimy.
