Family affairs took on new meaning at a roof-top bash for folk’s legendary founding father Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, the subject of docu “The Ballad of Ramblin’ Jack” helmed by the musician’s daughter, Aiyana Elliott.
Several of Elliot’s ex-wives and his currently espoused lady love, Jan Elliot all mingled with remarkable fondness on the rooftop of the AMC Empire Theater.
Folkies and fans gathered under the stars to hear Elliot pluck a few songs and tip his big black cowboy hat to synchronicity and the Gotham night.
“This really is mystical,” said the guitarist, who taught Bob Dylan his licks. “I played a G chord and somebody out there blew their car horn in the key of G.”
Among those enjoying the vibe were pic’s co-writer and helmer Dick Dahl; Jeff and Scott Lipsky, the co-presidents of Lot 47 Films, which is releasing the film; folk luminaries Odetta and Dave Van Ronk; Woody Guthrie’s daughter Nora Guthrie; a beaming Marisa Tomei, and Ethan Hawke.
