If it’s Tuesday, it must be “Next Friday.”
Fans turned out in droves at the Cinerama Dome this week for the New Line pic’s bow, which must have buoyed film star Ice Cube. But at the House of Blues after-party, the rapper-actor’s colleagues seemed determined to top the fans’ frenzy. Steve Carr, making his helming debut with “Next Friday,” enthused, “Cube is one of the most supportive people you will ever meet. Tommy “Tiny” Lister Jr. opted to fly in from London four times during the shooting of another pic just to be a part of “anything Cube is involved in.” But co-star John Witherspoon topped both of them by describing Cube as “a genius.”
Also at the preem were New Line production prexy Mike De Luca, marketing prexy Joe Nimziki, execs Claire Rudnick Polstein and David Tuckerman; the pic’s Mike Epps, Don “DC” Curry, Jacob Vargas, Tamala Jones, Kym E. Whitley and Lisa Rodriguez; and guests Terrell Davis, Loretta Devine, Snoop Dogg, Omar Epps, Warren G., original “Friday” helmer F. Gary Gray, Seth Green, Ja Rule, Magic Johnson, Korn, Jerry and Charlie O’Connell, Praz, Michael Rapaport, Chris Rock, Guy Torry, Shawn and Marlon Wayans.
