Partly filling the void left when Rob Moore ankled Disney early this year, Dean C. Hallett has been named senior veep and chief financial officer of the Walt Disney Studios.
Hallett had been veep of planning and control at the studio; his new position calls for expanded responsibility, including oversight of all financial, strategic and operational aspects of the division.
Hallett reports to Peter Schneider, chairman of Disney Studios, and Tom Staggs, senior executive veep and chief financial officer of the Walt Disney Co.
“We are delighted to have Dean in this important role,” Staggs said. “He has both a keen understanding of our studio’s businesses and exceptional strategic and analytic skills.”
Schneider added: “Dean’s an invaluable asset to us and an essential member of the team. Having someone who understands our company and our business so comprehensively is an essential element of the creative process. I am thrilled to be able to promote him to this position and know he’ll do a fantastic job.”
Hallett has been with Disney since 1990 and the Disney Studios since 1991. Most recently, he was senior veep of planning and control for the Disney Studios and VP of finance and administration for Buena Vista Pictures marketing, respectively.
He joined Disney as a manager in the corporate management audit department in 1990. The following year, he moved to Buena Vista marketing as a director of finance. He was promoted to veep in 1994.
Prior to joining the Mouse House, Hallett served for three years as group controller with Anthony Industries and seven years in public accounting at Ernst and Whinney. He holds a business degree from USC.
