Virgin raises Bracamontes

Sr. VP to o'see operations of R&B department

Thomas Bracamontes has been elevated to senior veep of Virgin Records Urban. Most recently senior VP of promotion for the diskery, Bracamontes will report to Virgin Records co-prexy Ray Cooper.

Bracamontes will manage day-to-day operations of the R&B department, including promotion, marketing and publicity.

“I’m extremely excited about the strides Virgin has made in the urban area,” Bracamontes said. “Over the past year, we’ve enjoyed tremendous success with D’Angelo, Ideal, Kelis, Beenie Man and Gang Starr. We look forward to an even greater level of success with Rap-a-Lot, Jazzmatazz and Blade, among others.”

Prior to joining Virgin, Bracamontes served as veep of urban promotion for Sony/550 Music, having held similar posts with Tommy Boy Records and Delicious Vinyl Records.

Cooper and co-prexy Ashley Newton issued the following joint statement: “Tom has helped guide our entire Virgin team over the past year and has helped even further establish Virgin as a force to be reckoned with in urban music. This promotion is a testament to his dedication and passion, and we look forward to even greater success from the urban team under his guidance.”
