She’kspere dips quill in Arista ink

Briggs to head, produce and be A&R man for new label

Arista Records has signed hitmaking producer-songwriter Kevin “She’kspere” Briggs to an exclusive, joint-venture label deal and production agreement.

Under the pact, Briggs not only will head the unnamed label, but also serve as an A&R consultant and staff producer for Arista. His responsibilities will include finding and developing artists, repertoire and other producers for Arista and its affiliated labels. Briggs will continue to be based in Atlanta.

Briggs’ resume includes producing and co-writing TLC’s double-Grammy winning “No Scrubs” for the Arista-distributed LaFace label, which Arista prexy/CEO Antonio “L.A.” Reid previously headed, and Destiny’s Child’s hit single “Bills, Bills, Bills” for Columbia Records.

A hot producer

In making the announcement, Reid said, “She’kspere is one of today’s young, hot producers who breathes new life into contemporary music. I couldn’t be happier to be working alongside him, not only as a talented producer, but as a friend.”

“I’m excited to continue my relationship with L.A. Reid,” Briggs said. “I also like the idea of building a partnership with such a powerful entity as Arista, and I look forward to new opportunities that this venture will bring.”

Having begun his professional career in 1997, Briggs has since worked with artists such as Mariah Carey, ‘N Sync, Faith Evans, Montell Jordan, Sinead O’Connor and Pink.
