S. Africa’s local music booming

More than one third of the music bought by South Africans is local, according to a report released this week by Johannesburg auditing group KPMG.

This local content figure is significantly higher than in other Western countries such as Canada, New Zealand and Australia. KPMG media and entertainment director Julia Lamberth said that the South African music industry has grown into a 1 billion rand ($144 million) affair, employing over 20,000 people.
