Indie label 32 Records, a subsid of CDBeat.com, has hired noted jazz producer Todd Barkan as creative director. He will report to 32 Records prexy-CEO Robert Miller.
Barkan’s credits include owning and managing San Francisco’s Keystone Korner night club, managing the Boys Choir of Harlem and producing recordings by Grover Washington Jr., Tommy Flanagan and many others, for such labels as Fantasy/Milestone, Columbia, Concord and Sunnyside.
Other execs joining 32 Records are Frank Hendricks, who’ll serve as director of marketing and sales, and Phil Cassese, who’ll be director of publicity.
Meanwhile, former 32 Records prexy Joel Dorn has announced the formation of Label M Records, which will focus on previously unreleased live recordings by jazz, blues and R&B artists, reissues of classic albums, compilations and select new artists.
Label M will operate as part of PDSE Records, which includes Indie 5000, Mesa/Bluemoon, Kinetic and Trippin’ ‘N’ Rhythm Records. He will be joined in the venture by his son, Adam Dorn.
