Money to be used for commercially-oriented prod'ns

BERLIN — Public film funding in Germany is set to get another boost as the state of Hessen will launch a new DM15 million ($7 million) production fund next year.

Fund will be geared toward commercially oriented television and film productions and add to the $1.4 million already available in Hessen for culturally oriented productions.

Public funding in Germany is a vital part of the local production industry. Altogether, regional and federal subsidy bodies pump north of $140 million into local productions annually.
