S&S nabs Crick bio of Murdoch

HarperCollins canceled book, citing 'conflict of interest'

NEW YORK — Simon & Schuster said Friday its U.K. division has acquired a biography of Rupert Murdoch by British author and journalist Michael Crick.

The book, which will be published in 2002, was canceled by former publisher Fourth Estate after the prominent independent was purchased last month by HarperCollins — a unit of Murdoch’s News Corp.

Fourth Estate founder and HarperCollins’ new U.K. CEO- Publisher Victoria Barnsley had cited “a general conflict of interest.”
