Wong to helm SPE’s ‘Psychic’

Sony prod'n veep Attanasio to oversee project

Kirk Wong (“The Big Hit”) is attached to direct the feature adaptation of “Mai, The Psychic Girl” for Sony Pictures Family Entertainment.

Based on a Japanese Manga comic book series about a little girl who is initially reluctant to learn that she has psychic powers, the project has a long Hollywood history. Tim Burton was once attached to direct the film for Carolco; later, Francis Ford Coppola developed the property.

“Mai” is being produced by Todd Moyer’s No Prisoners. Project will be overseen at Sony by production veep Stacey Attanasio.

The project marks a return to Sony for the director, who directed Mark Wahlberg in “The Big Hit” for the studio.

Wong had previously directed a number of Hong Kong action movies, including “Gunmen” and “Crime Story.” He is also developing “Six” for producer Mark Canton at Warner Bros. Pictures.

Wong is represented by United Talent Agency and attorney Tom Maguire at Hanson, Jacobson, Teller and Hoberman.
