BOSTON — Film producer Christine Vachon will be honored with the second “Filmmaker on the Edge” award at the Provincetown Intl. Film Festival, to be held June 15-18. Last year’s recipient was filmmaker John Waters. Vachon is the producer of the current arthouse hit “Boys Don’t Cry.”
Her other credits include “Poison,” “Safe,” “Happiness,” “Velvet Goldmine,” “Go Fish,” “Kids” and “I Shot Andy Warhol.” According to festival directors Connie White and Marianne Lampke, Vachon was selected because of her “remarkable commitment to nurturing ground-breaking projects” and discovering new directors like Todd Haynes, Rose Troche, Mary Harron, and Kimberly Pierce. Pierce’s “Boys Don’t Cry” has received a number of year-end awards from critics groups.
The Provincetown event, located at the end of Cape Cod in Massachusetts, will expand to four days from three in its second stanza.
