U.K.’s Film Council gives $10 million to prod’n orgs

Screen Finance, Euro Co-Prod'n Fund, BFI to split pounds

LONDON — The Film Council, the U.K.’s new strategic film body, has awarded £6.5 million ($10 million) in transitional funding to four production bodies, covering the six-month period while they are being integrated under the council’s umbrella.

For the period from April to September, $1.6 million has been allocated to British Screen Finance, another $1.6 million to the European Co-Production Fund, a minimum of $5.6 million for lottery funding and $1.2 million to BFI Production.

The Film Council will be announcing the full details of its plans May 2. Chief exec John Woodward said, “Given the climate of uncertainty around public funding for film over the past two years, the Film Council’s directors feel it is important to ensure the continuation of existing funding.”
