LONDON — Vet producer Robert Jones has sealed a first-look deal with FilmFour through his London-based outfit Jones Co. Prods.
Jones (“The Usual Suspects,” “Sirens”) and FilmFour unveiled three projects to kick off the partnership, including the previously announced “Jack Sheppard and Jonathan Wild,” lensing early next year.
Jones has also acquired the rights to “The New City” from author Stephen Amidon. It is about two candidates running for mayor in a utopian metropolis.
Meanwhile, “Battle Royal,” an adaptation of Nick Stafford’s play, is the story of the troubled marriage of King George IV and Queen Caroline.
FilmFour was already handling the release of “Simon Magus” for Jones. Formalizing their ongoing relationship, Jones said, “made absolute strategic sense … We share the same tastes and global outlook.”
FilmFour recently inked a first-look deal with Andrea Calderwood (“An Ideal Husband, “Mrs. Brown”), who is ankling her post as head of production at Pathe Pictures to hang out her own shingle.
A FilmFour spokesperson said that although first-look deals have not been the norm in the U.K., the company expects to do more.
