Helmer and scribe Karyn Kusama, fresh off of her multiple wins in the Sundance 2000 ring for her pic “Girlfight,” has signed with Endeavor. Clinching both best film and best helmer belts, “Girlfight” is slated for an August 11 release through Sony’s specialized arm, Screen Gems. Kusama is repped by attorney Roz Lichter. Her producing partner is Martha Griffin.
Columbia recording artist Maxwell has hired Artists Management Group/Violator as his new management team. Maxwell recently received a Soul Train Award and a Billboard Award for his single “Fortunate,” from last year’s Eddie Murphy vehicle “Life.”
The Metropolitan Talent Agency has signed veteran thesp James Remar (“Boys on the Side”) and Tichina Arnold (“Martin”). Remar co-stars with Harrison Ford in helmer Robert Zemeckis’ “What Lies Beneath,” and Arnold reteams with Martin Lawrence for 20th Century Fox’s “Big Momma’s House.”
Remar is managed by Lighthouse Entertainment, and Arnold is managed by Geoff Cheddy at the Firm.
Academy Award-winning visual effects supervisor and helmer Charles Gibson (“Babe”) has been signed by the Gersh Agency. He was most recently the visual effects supervisor and second unit director for “The Green Mile,” and just wrapped Robert Altman’s “Dr. T and the Women,” where he was visual effects supervisor.
Tommy Chong and thesp-scribe Annabelle Gurwitch have inked with Don Buchwald & Associates. Chong has a recurring role on “That ’70s Show,” and Gurwitch recently wrote and starred in 60 commercial spots for the Ford Focus in addition to hosting TBS’ “Dinner and a Movie.”
Chong will be repped by Neil Stearns. Gurwitch, who recently penned a humor article for Penthouse magazine and has also signed for literary representation, will be repped by Neil Stearns and Renee Jennett. Her manager is Joel Lichtenwalter of Fidelity Management.
Character actor Allan Rich, who’s appeared in over 50 films (ranging from “Serpico” to “Bicentennial Man”), has inked with Greater Vision Agency’s Geneva Bray and Lisa DeSante for theatrical representation. Rich has a recurring role on the CBS skein “Judging Amy.”
The Gersh Agency has taken on three new clients: thesp/chanteuse Rebekah Johnson (“Liberty Heights”), Chyler Leigh of the WB’s “Safe Harbor” and Nicholas Lea, who co-stars with Bill Paxton in Sony’s upcoming feature “The Vertical Limit.”
Johnson is managed by AMG Management, Leigh is managed by Lane Management Group, and Lea is managed by McGowan-Levine Management.
