Taunus opens L.A. office, ramps up int’l co-prod’ns

Producer Bohnet to o'see TanusFilms, Icon licensing deal struck

BERLIN — CineMedia subsidiary TaunusFilm Produktion is opening an L.A. office with a view to intensifying relationships with Hollywood.

TaunusFilm L.A. will pursue producing formats for German-speaking stations and step up its international co-productions. Two to three television or theatrical projects per year are planned.

Producer Susanne Bohnet will head the new venture. Taunus operates as the co-production motor for post-production house CineMedia, which has been shifting its focus toward international licensing and production deals.

So far, CineMedia has struck a multipicture licensing deal with Icon, taking rights to films such as the Mel Gibson starrer “What Women Want.” Company has been building up its production base in Europe, taking a minority stake in a newly formed Berlin-based production entity, Watch!Entertainment, while TaunusFilm struck a co-production agreement with U.K. production shingle Own2Feet.

CineMedia recently signed a theatrical distribution agreement for Germany with Buena Vista Intl.
