NEW YORK — Tim Allen and Christian Slater are negotiating to star in “Cletis Tout,” a comedy about mistaken identity written and to be directed by Chris Ver Wiel for Seven Arts Pictures. Filming is slated to begin in May.
Slater is negotiating to play an escaped convict who takes on the identity of the title character, who happens to be dead. That plan goes awry when he realizes that the previous holder of the name Cletis Tout is slated to be rubbed out by a hitman, a quirky assassin to be played by Allen.
The film is produced by Dan Grodnik, Robert Snukal and Matt Grimaldi, and was put together by Seven Arts chairman Peter Hoffman and production prexy Eric Sandys.
Allen has toplined such hits as the recent holiday sleeper “Galaxy Quest” and “The Santa Clause,” as well as providing the voice for Buzz Lightyear in the Disney smash “Toy Story” and its sequel.
Allen is repped by Jim Wiatt of William Morris and attorney Dennis Ardi, and managed by Messina/Baker.
Slater, who most recently took a Broadway bow in “Side Man,” is repped by ICM and attorney Tom McGuire.
