Further proving that Joe Roth’s relationship with talent is paying off, his Revolution Studios has enlisted Lawrence Kasdan to direct a large-scale police drama based on Kasdan’s original screenplay.
Roth was Disney chairman when the studio made Kasdan’s “Mumford,” and chair of 20th Century Fox during the production and release of Kasdan’s 1991 pic “Grand Canyon.”
Kasdan and Charles Okun will produce. Lensing is expected to start in early 2001.
The untitled pic concerns an elite special response team of big-city cops trained to deal with the most vicious criminals and most volatile situations.
“Larry is one of the most talented filmmakers in the business,” Roth said, in a press release. “I am excited to be collaborating with him on one of our initial projects at Revolution Studios.”
Kasdan’s “The Big Chill” and “The Accidental Tourist” were both nominated for best picture Oscars. His credits include “Body Heat,” “Silverado” and “French Kiss.”
Kasdan is repped by CAA.
