Veteran producer and director Sydney Pollack and his Sony-based Mirage Enterprises will produce an untitled romantic comedy from red-hot scribe Susannah Grant for Columbia Pictures.
While Grant has never directed a feature, it’s somewhat understandable that she’s received the go-ahead to do so for the first time at Sony: Her “Erin Brockovich” — on which Sony shares a split pot with Universal — owned the top spot at the box office last weekend, and Sony has similarly high hopes for Grant’s “28 Days,” which opens mid-April with Sandra Bullock toplining.
The TV-turned-feature scribe has gotten behind the camera for several small-screen events, namely, episodes of Fox’s soon-departing “Party of Five,” where she’d served variously a staff writer, story editor and consulting producer.
In addition to Fox’s Drew Barrymore-starrer “Ever After,” Grant also wrote Disney’s 1995 animated feature “Pocohontas.”
Pollack’s last production outing was in an exec producer capacity on Par and Miramax’s hit, “The Talented Mr. Ripley,” and his own flopped Harrison Ford starrer, “Random Hearts.”
Grant is repped by Creative Artists Agency; Pollack is repped by Artists Management Group.
