Par Classics is sold ‘American’

Gardos helms, scripts autobiogaphical tale of Communist escape

Paramount Classics will distribute “American Rhapsody,” the feature writing and directing debut of Eva Gardos. Produced by Colleen Camp and Bonnie Timmermann, Gardos’ screenplay was discovered when it won the top prize in the 1998 Hartley-Merrill Screenwriting Competition.

Starring Nastassja Kinski, Scarlett Johansson and Tony Goldwyn, “American Rhapsody” is the true story of Gardos’ escape from Communist Hungary to the U.S. Paramount will handle “American” in certain overseas territories. Seven Arts International handles the film’s international distribution.
