Oz Institute taps chief

Deb Verhoeven, head of media and cinema studies at Melbourne’s RMIT U., has been appointed interim chief exec of screen culture body the Australian Film Institute, replacing five-year incumbent Ruth Jones, who leaves to take up a position outside the movie industry.

Funded by private sector sponsorships and grants from government screen agencies, the AFI organizes Oz’s annual film awards and various film culture activities.
