NEW YORK — In his first seven-figure payday, James Marsden is set to star in “Ocean Warrior,” the story of Greenpeace co-founder Paul Watson, who also founded the Sea Shepherd Society.
John Badham will direct from a script by Keith Ross Leckie.
Pic, set in Europe, chronicles Watson and crew’s rabble-rousing efforts on behalf of environmental concerns as they form Greenpeace.
Watson co-founded Greenpeace in 1971 but was booted from the org for being too radical; he then founded the Sea Shepherd Society.
“Ocean Warrior” is produced by Pieter Kroonenburg, Gary Howsam and Bous de Jong for Ocean Warrior BV. Pic is being financed independently and Wat-son will serve as consultant. Filming will begin Aug. 15, said Kroonenburg.
Best known for starring with Katie Holmes in “Disturbing Behavior,” Marsden will next be seen in the lead role of the Davis Guggenheim-directed “Gossip.” He is also playing Cyclops in the Bryan Singer-directed Fox film “X-Men” and will co-star in New Line’s “Sugar and Spice.”
Marsden was repped by Basic Entertainment, Paradigm and Loeb and Loeb.
