PARIS — French TV production company Marathon will executive produce the next film by Israeli-born director Amos Kollek as part of its first foray into features.
The company is also in talks with “Kids” director Larry Clark.
CEO Olivier Bremond said Thursday that the company was actively seeking to produce and, where possible, fully finance American indie films.
“It is a gamble but one that can pay off handsomely when it works,” Bremond told Daily Variety.
Bound for Big Apple
The $1.2 million Kollek movie, set in New York, tells the story of a man obsessed with an actress. It is being produced by the director’s own production outfit along with French producer Jean-Louis Piel. Marathon will handle international sales.
Marathon is also in negotiation to produce Clark’s next movie, a tough account of adolescent life, written by Harmony Korine. The Studio Canal arthouse division Wild Bunch may also help finance the film.
A third project is a full-length animated pic based on the children’s character Marsupilami. The company has already produced a TV series of Marsupilami that has sold to around 20 countries and will bow in the fall.
