Landmark foreign-lingo winner: ‘Life Is Beautiful’

Two other Italo films take top honors in 25th anni poll

Voters in a poll by Landmark Theaters picked “Life Is Beautiful” as their favorite foreign-lingo film, the arthouse exhib announced Sunday at the Palm Springs Intl. Film Festival.

The 1998 pic netted Oscars for best foreign-language film and best actor Roberto Benigni.

Two other Italian films, “Cinema Paradiso” and “Il Postino,” finished second and third in the poll, which drew 35,000 ballots.

The survey was conducted Aug. 1-Oct. 31 to fete Landmark’s 25th anniversary. The theater chain sought a list of the 100 favorite foreign films to accompany AFI’s roster of the top 100 American pics.

Landmark runs 52 indie-oriented theaters in 11 states. It’s a unit of Dallas-based Silver Cinemas.
