Jersey says let’s get ‘Lost’

Pyper's thriller latest book buy for trio

Jersey Films partners Danny DeVito, Michael Shamberg and Stacey Sher, who’ve had considerable success with book adaptations with titles ranging from “Get Shorty” to the current hit “Erin Brockovich,” have made a deal for “Lost Girls,” a thriller by Andrew Pyper to be published by Delacorte in May.

In a setting that marries “The Shining” with “The Sixth Sense,” a Canadian defense lawyer reps a serial killer in a small town and his visits with the murderer spark repressed memories from his childhood that lead the lawyer to believe he too may have committed a murder.

Jersey, which just bought the Elmore Leonard novel “Pagan Babies,” picked up the book through its discretionary fund, just as it did “Brockovich,” which just topped the $100 million gross mark. Screen rights were sold by Sterling Lord’s Jody Hotchkiss with Canadian lit agent Anne McDermid.
