HOLLYWOOD — Academy Award nominated writer-director-producer Jim Sheridan (“In the Name of the Father”) and his Hell’s Kitchen producing partner, Arthur Lappin, have acquired remake rights to the Spanish thriller “Tesis” (Thesis).
Producers intend to finance the pic themselves and put it into production in the spring.
Original film, directed by Alejandro Amenabar, centers on Angela, a young graduate film student consumed by her thesis “Violence in the Media.” Story takes a dark turn when her obsession with the topic leads her into a cat-and-mouse game with a male colleague who she comes to believe is a killer.
Project will be adapted by scribe Tanya Reihill. Bill Johnson and David Jordan of Skyler Entertainment will produce along with Renata Adamidov of Hell’s Kitchen.
Amenabar is in post-production on Miramax’s “The Others,” starring Nicole Kidman. His pic “Obre los ojes” (“Open Your Eyes”), which starred Penelope Cruz, is being remade as “Vanilla Sky” under the direction of Cameron Crowe, who adapted from the original. That pic, in production at Paramount, stars Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz and Cruz.
Sheridan, repped by CAA, also directed “My Left Foot.”
