Benjamin Bratt, Giancarlo Esposito, Talisa Soto, Rita Morena and Mandy Patinkin topline “Pinero,” the GreenStreet Films biopic of Latino poet Miguel Pinero.
Lensing on the Leon Ichaso helmed film about is slated to begin Friday in Gotham and, later, in Puerto Rico.
Bratt will play Pinero, whose urban poetry is recognized as a precursor to rap and hip-hop. Pinero’s prison experiences were the basis of the 1974 Tony Award-winning play “Short Eyes.”
Bratt, who appeared in “The Next Best Thing,” is also starring in Warner Bros.’ upcoming pics “Red Planet” and “Miss Congeniality.”
Ichaso is best known for his Cuban love story “Butter Sugar.” He also has helmed pics including “Crossover Dreams,” “El Super” and “Sugar Hill.” His “Hendrix” preems on Showtime late this month.
GreenStreet Films is in post-production with “In the Bedroom,” being co-produced by Good Machine, and “Just a Kiss,” GreenStreet partner Fisher Stevens’ directorial debut.
